Oklahoma was prominently featured in the initial round of postseason awards leading up to this week’s Women’s College World Series.
Five Sooners received All-American honors from Softball America, with two earning First-Team, one making the Second-Team, and two being named Freshman All-Americans.
Center fielder Jayda Coleman and shortstop Tiare Jennings earned First-Team honors, playing pivotal roles in OU’s return to Oklahoma City. Coleman, fifth on the team with a .394 batting average, leads with 50 walks and a .532 on-base percentage, along with 42 RBIs, 12 home runs, and a 1.213 OPS. Jennings leads the team with 22 home runs, tying the career record of 95 homers, and has a .372 average with 14 doubles, 63 RBIs, and a 1.283 OPS.
Third baseman Alyssa Brito was named a Second-Team All-American, batting .406 with a team-high four triples, 18 home runs, 59 RBIs, and a 1.324 OPS.
Freshmen Ella Parker and Kasidi Pickering were honored as Freshman Team All-Americans. Parker leads with a .419 average, 12 home runs, 57 RBIs, 32 walks, 17 stolen bases, and a .526 on-base percentage, ranking 12th nationally. Pickering has 10 home runs, a .394 average, 48 RBIs, and a 1.214 OPS.
The Sooners will begin their quest for a fourth consecutive WCWS title at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, facing the 10-seeded Duke Blue Devils in a rematch from their second game of the season in Mexico.
