so sad to say goodbye: Bengals most talented player announces his leaving due to his…..
Billy Price, a former first-round draft pick, has announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 29 due to a recent severe blood clot scare.
Price, who was selected 21st overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2018, made the announcement on Saturday via Instagram.
His NFL career spanned five seasons, with time spent at the Bengals, New York Giants, and Arizona Cardinals.
The offensive lineman cited the risk of internal bleeding from blood thinners as a primary reason for his early retirement.
“In the blink of an eye, everything can be taken away,” Price wrote.
“On April 24th, I had emergency pulmonary embolism surgery to remove a saddle clot that was entering both of my lungs. As a healthy 29-year-old, an unprovoked pulmonary embolism with no further medical explanation is terrifying. I am truly thankful to be alive today. Unfortunately, I will be retiring from the NFL as the risk of an internal bleed while on blood thinners creates tremendous risk.”
Price’s career began with promise as he played 42 games and started 19 in his three seasons with the Bengals.
His rookie season saw him starting 10 games, but his opportunities decreased over the next two years, leading to his trade to the New York Giants.
In New York, Price started 15 games in the 2021 season.
He then joined the Arizona Cardinals, where he started 11 games in 2022.
Price also had stints with the Las Vegas Raiders, New Orleans Saints, and Dallas Cowboys, including time on the Cowboys’ practice squad last year.
Reflecting on his career, Price expressed gratitude for the experiences and relationships he built along the way.
“I am truly thankful for the opportunity to have played in some of the greatest atmospheres around the world,” he wrote.
“I am thankful to have trained and played alongside men who will continue to make Pro Bowls, All Pro Rosters, and Hall of Fame recognitions.”
He also acknowledged the support of his wife, highlighting her sacrifices and looking forward to their future together.
“To my wife: this career would not have been possible without your continued love and support. The sacrifices you have made over the course of my career do not go unnoticed. I cannot wait to navigate the next chapter in life with you as we continue to grow our family.”
Price’s college career at Ohio State was marked by notable achievements.
