The Atlanta Falcons should consider acquiring a former player from a hated rival.

Atlanta Falcons fans often criticized Michael Thomas for only running one route. It’s true that Thomas was frequently given the ball on slants and similar routes, allowing him to make plays after the catch. Drew Brees excelled at timing these passes perfectly, and Thomas capitalized on these opportunities. Despite some truth to the claims about his limited route running, Thomas was once considered a top receiver in the league, mentioned alongside Julio Jones and Antonio Brown.

Over time, heavy usage and injuries took a toll on his career. Now a free agent, Thomas is seeking a new team to prove he still has what it takes. Signing with the Falcons would be intriguing as the two franchises move in different directions. Historically, Sean Payton and Drew Brees often outperformed Atlanta, so acquiring a key player from their era as the Saints approach a rebuild would be fitting.

From a strategic standpoint, it also makes sense. The Falcons need depth at receiver, with Drake London, Darnell Mooney, and Rondale Moore occupying the top spots. Beyond London and Mooney, the remaining positions are open, providing an opportunity for Thomas to claim the third spot on the depth chart.

Seeing Michael Thomas in a Falcons uniform might be strange for fans, but it would weaken a division rival and give Thomas a chance to contribute and seek revenge for his departure from New Orleans.
