Report: Spurs Add Themselves to the List of Teams Eyeing Warriors’ $30 Million Star

The Golden State Warriors may face difficulty retaining an aging Chris Paul under an expensive contract next season. If they allow him to become a free agent this summer, they will encounter strong competition for the 39-year-old point guard.

Among the potential suitors for Paul’s services are the Los Angeles Lakers, where his close friend LeBron James currently plays. NBA insider Marc Stein also mentioned the San Antonio Spurs as interested parties, as reported on Friday, May 24, in “The Stein Line.”

“The Spurs and Lakers continue to be mentioned as potential destinations for the Warriors’ Chris Paul if he hits free agency this offseason,” Stein wrote. “Paul’s $30 million salary for next season becomes fully guaranteed on June 28 unless Golden State waives him or trades him to a team that opts to keep him. The Warriors are reportedly assessing these options.”
