Tommy Mace shines like a star as Austin Peterson strikes out 13 batters, leading affiliates to a sweep.

The standout of this game was starting pitcher Tommy Mace, who delivered an exceptional performance. He pitched seven innings, giving up two unearned runs on three hits, with three strikeouts and three walks.

Tommy Mace, a 25-year-old right-handed prospect for the Guardians, secured his 6th win of the season for Akron, reducing his ERA to 1.79. His line for the game was: 7.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO (89 pitches, 55 strikes). For the 2024 season, Mace has logged 60.1 innings, allowing 38 hits, 18 runs (12 earned), 16 walks, and striking out 41, maintaining a 1.79 ERA.

Relievers Trey Benton and Tyler Thornton each pitched a scoreless inning to secure the win.

Offensively, Yordys Valdes was a key player, going 3-for-4 with a triple and two stolen bases. Joe Lampe hit a double, Alexfri Planez homered, and Conner Kokx went 1-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch and two stolen bases.

In another game, the Lake County Captains defeated the Cedar Rapids Kernels 6-4, improving their record to 28-19. Austin Peterson delivered one of the best performances of his career, tying a Lake County record by striking out 13 batters in seven innings without walking any, and allowing two runs on four hits.

Reliever Juan Zapata struggled, giving up two runs on three hits in just 1/3 of an inning. Magnus Ellerts then pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings to earn the save.

Although Lake County didn’t record any extra-base hits, they consistently got on base. Alex Mooney went 1-for-3 with two walks and two stolen bases. Jose Devers stayed hot, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk. Jake Fox went 1-for-3 with two walks, and C.J. Kayfus reached base three times, going 1-for-3 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Nate Furman was 2-for-5, and Cooper Ingle went 1-for-4 with a walk.
