Yankees star Juan Soto exits early from the victory against the Twins due to forearm discomfort following a rain delay.
New York Yankees star Juan Soto was removed from their 8-5 victory over the Minnesota Twins due to left forearm discomfort.
Following a rain delay of nearly an hour on Thursday night at Yankee Stadium, Soto was pulled at the top of the sixth inning when play resumed. Aaron Judge took over in right field, while Alex Verdugo came off the bench to play left field.
The severity of Soto’s injury remains uncertain—he is scheduled for further testing on Friday. According to manager Aaron Boone, Soto has been experiencing forearm discomfort for about a week. There was no specific incident on Thursday night that exacerbated it.
Boone commented, “Once we shut down and the rain delay happened, that soreness was there. So we just didn’t feel like it was right for him to go back out there. It’s been something that’s been bothering him.”
Soto, who was 0-for-1 with two walks before leaving the game, has started every game for the Yankees this year. The 25-year-old, acquired in a major trade with the San Diego Padres this past offseason, is batting .318 with 53 RBIs and 17 home runs.
It is unclear how long Soto might be sidelined. Yankees’ top outfield prospect Jasson Domínguez was also pulled from his AAA game before the eighth inning on Thursday night. The Yankees confirmed this was scheduled as he played seven innings on defense, the most in his rehab stint. It remains uncertain how long Domínguez will stay with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
Despite Soto’s exit, the Yankees secured the win over the Twins, marking their eighth consecutive victory, maintaining a 6-0 record against the Twins this season, and improving to 45-19 overall.
