However, before O’Neal started trending towards the Sooners, OU was strongly projected to land another four-star quarterback, Dereon Coleman.
Coleman, who attended the Brent Venables Football Camp this week, is rated as a four-star player by the 247Sports composite rankings. On Thursday, he revealed his top eight schools in his recruitment process.
The list includes the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Illinois, UCF, TCU, and Nebraska.
Regarding Oklahoma, Coleman told John Garcia of Rivals, “A dream offer. A staff that truly believes in my abilities. The tradition of the program. The fans. It felt like home on my visit. Why not OU?”
Coleman is a slender quarterback with good height and an impressive throwing ability. He has a strong deep ball and excellent accuracy. He’s also mobile and his sophomore highlights demonstrate great awareness.
