Brandon Smith’s future with the Roosters is uncertain after the club issued him a breach notice for missing the team’s mid-season review on Monday.

Following a disappointing loss to North Queensland at Allianz Stadium, the Roosters held a series of review meetings. Smith did not attend these meetings, resulting in the breach notice. It is unclear if he will be selected to play for the Roosters against Parramatta at CommBank Stadium next Saturday night after their bye.

Sources, speaking anonymously, revealed that Smith later informed club officials he was unaware of the scheduled meeting. The officials tried contacting Smith multiple times during the meeting, but he didn’t respond until later, explaining that he did not have his phone on him. “It was a mistake from my end,” Smith admitted on Sunday afternoon.

Senior figures at the club are frustrated with Smith and are now considering his future with the team. Smith recently opted to remain with the Roosters through 2025, with his deal believed to be worth around $850,000 for next season. Coach Robinson is under pressure to ensure Smith stays committed amidst concerns about his dedication.

Smith, who joined the Roosters from Melbourne last year, has struggled to adapt to the new team and city. While he has shown improvement in early 2024, uncertainty about his position remains. The club had given players a few days off last week but required them to attend the review before their break. This review not only covered the loss to the Cowboys but also assessed the first 13 rounds of the season leading into the bye. Robinson traditionally conducts these mid-season reviews to help players understand necessary improvements for the finals.
