The Sydney Roosters have achieved a milestone by securing Michael Woolridge, the inaugural male athlete discovered through the NRL combine held in Las Vegas.
Woolridge, a former defensive back from Saginaw Valley State University, is set to journey to Australia to embark on an NRL career following his standout performance at the first-ever combine conducted ahead of this year’s NRL round one matches.
Under the terms of his contract, Woolridge has secured a full-time position with a salary cap exemption until the culmination of the Roosters’ pre-season training, ending at Christmas. Should he impress the team during this period, there is potential for him to continue with the team and potentially even make an unexpected NRL debut. His exceptional performance in Las Vegas included a 2.7-second 20-meter sprint, bench pressing 125kg three times, and completing the bronco test in four minutes and 50 seconds.
