CoventryLive reports on Coventry City, where Darren Huckerby, a previous favorite, wants to see Doug King return to Mark Robins during the transfer window.

Darren Huckerby insists that Mark Robins should receive all the profits to bolster his Coventry City squad if Viktor Gyokeres is sold this summer.

The former Sky Blues favorite, who made his Premier League name with the club in the late 1990s, continues to follow his old team closely. He is hopeful that the Championship side can strengthen their “nucleus of really good players” during the upcoming transfer window, officially opening on Friday (June 14).

It’s uncertain how much money Robins will have to spend, but a significant sale or ideally, a substantial financial boost from the club’s sell-on clause for Gyokeres, could fund several quality signings.

Gyokeres has had an incredible season in Portugal, helping Sporting Lisbon win the title with a flurry of goals that have made him a hot topic in European football and attracted interest from top Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea.

Asked if he thinks the Sky Blues, for whom he made 109 appearances and scored 34 goals between 1996-99, can strengthen and progress next season, Huckerby told CoventryLive: “Yes, I think they have a nucleus of really good players. It took the forward lads (Haji Wright and Ellis Simms) time to get going last season but they have proved themselves at Championship level now.”
