IT’S A DONE DEAL: Another mega star player committed to the Walsall fc just….

AFC Fylde full-back Connor Barrett is set to join the English Football League after rejecting a new contract with the Coasters.

The 22-year-old was one of six players offered new deals at the season’s end, having made 81 appearances over two years with the club.

Barrett has decided to sign a three-year contract with League Two side Walsall once his Fylde contract expires on June 30.

Barrett joined Fylde in 2022 from Kettering Town and played a key role in their promotion from the National League North in his first season. He then helped them secure 18th place in the top flight for the 2023/24 season.

Club Chairman David Haythornthwaite expressed his admiration for Barrett, stating: “I loved Connor and we did everything possible to keep him at the club. Fortunately, since Connor is under 24, we will receive a compensation fee for him.”

Barrett, who scored seven goals and provided 17 assists for the Coasters, becomes Walsall’s first summer signing as they aim to improve on their 11th-place finish this season.

He shared his excitement on Walsall’s website: “I’m buzzing to be here. After speaking to people involved at the club, everything has been positive, so it’s the perfect place to be right now.

“I want to build on last year. I had a good year and I want to do better. Hopefully, we can achieve great things together on the pitch. All the conversations with head coach Mat Sadler were positive, and I feel that under his management and guidance, he’ll push me one step further.”
