The Tennessee Vols made an unfortunate error this weekend during five-star offensive tackle David Sanders Jr’s official visit to Rocky Top.
Sanders, standing 6-foot-6 and weighing 290 lbs, hails from Charlotte, NC, and is ranked by 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 2 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.
Tennessee is one of the top contenders for Sanders, along with Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Ohio State. Although Sanders has visited Tennessee multiple times over the past year, this official visit to UT was particularly significant for the Vols.
Unfortunately for Tennessee, a small typo appeared on Sanders’ place card at dinner on Saturday. Instead of “David Sanders Jr,” it read “Davis Sanders Jr.” This minor, understandable error—since the S and D keys are adjacent on keyboards—has nevertheless drawn ridicule on the internet.
While the mistake is minor, it has given other programs a chance to mock Tennessee, which is the last thing the Vols need as they continue their pursuit of Sanders, a crucial recruit for the program.
The good news for the Vols is that Sanders is unlikely to base his decision on a misspelled name on a place card. However, this is not the kind of attention Tennessee wants following a critical recruiting weekend.
