NEW YORK Edwin Díaz, who was activated from the injured list on Thursday, will immediately return to his closer role with the Mets.
The struggling reliever has been out since May 29 due to an inflammation in his right shoulder. He blew three consecutive save opportunities and four of five before being placed on the injured list. This excludes the May 18 loss at Miami, where he lost a four-run lead in the ninth inning but was not assessed a blown save.

Díaz is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA and five saves in 20 appearances after missing the previous season due to a knee injury; this is a far cry from his spectacular 2022 campaign on the mound.
