Deal canceled: Panthers top key player terminate his two-year contract extension due to his……

As Jadeveon Clowney mentioned last week, players are always playing for their next contract, not the one they have just signed. The urgency varies for each player, especially those entering the final year, or in some cases, the only year of their contract.

In 2024, 23 Carolina Panthers will be in the final year of their current deals.

Penny signed a one-year contract earlier this offseason and is expected to be the Panthers’ short-yardage and goal-line back. While he has the potential to do more, with Chuba Hubbard, Miles Sanders, and Jonathon Brooks also on the roster, he won’t be relied upon for much more.

Smith-Marsette showed moments of being an explosive playmaker last season. Although he’s not anticipated to be one of Bryce Young’s top three or four targets in the passing game, he is a valuable depth player and contributes on special teams as a returner.

Sullivan will be competing for a role and possibly a spot on the 53-man roster by August. His previous connections with Dave Canales and Dan Morgan in Seattle might give him an advantage, but he is currently seen as the fourth option on the depth chart.

Thomas hasn’t yet proven to be a significant threat in the passing game, but he had a strong spring, making plays downfield. Nonetheless, he is regarded as one of the best blocking tight ends in the league.
