BLUFF CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – As the Tennessee Vols football season approaches, it looks like the wide receiver room will once again be led by veteran Bru McCoy.

The last time Big Orange fans saw the Southern California native, he was being stretchered out of Neyland Stadium after suffering a dislocation fracture of his right ankle in a game against South Carolina in September, which ended his season.

After successful surgery last fall, McCoy decided to return and give it another go at Rocky Top.

McCoy was in Bluff City on Saturday, helping UT teammate Dayne Davis with his annual football camp. With some time left before fall camp starts, McCoy is optimistic about his health for the 2024 season.

“Right now, I’m just keeping my head down and continuing to rehab so that when camp starts, I don’t even have to worry about it,” he said Saturday. “I’m using the summer to keep pushing forward. I already feel healthy enough to play.”

“Now it’s about making sure I come back better than I was last year.”

Davis believes McCoy’s dedication will ensure his return this fall.

“[He] works every day like it’s his last,” Davis said. “As you get older, you have to do that. We stress to the younger guys that you never know when it could be over.”

“You never know when something could happen and the game could be taken from you. So, we’re really excited for his season this year.”

Before his injury last season, McCoy had 17 catches for 217 yards and a touchdown.
