Officially Confirmed: Jaguars have signed quarterback Trevor Lawrence to a $275 million contract extension….

On Thursday, Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars reached an agreement on a five-year, $275 million contract extension, making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in NFL history, as reported by multiple sources.

The deal includes $200 million guaranteed and a $37.5 million signing bonus, according to an anonymous source speaking to the Associated Press. The news was also reported by ESPN and the NFL Network.

Lawrence will earn an average of $55 million annually under the new contract, matching Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow for the highest in NFL history.

This significant raise follows Detroit’s extension of Jared Goff’s contract by four years, valued at $212 million, making Goff the second-highest paid quarterback in the league with an average salary of $53 million.

Lawrence joins the ranks of quarterbacks earning more than $50 million a year, alongside Burrow, Goff, Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers, Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson, and Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts. He is the 14th quarterback to earn over $40 million annually and is the youngest on the list.

At 24 years old, Lawrence has a 21-31 record as a starter over three seasons, including a 1-1 record in the playoffs, and has accumulated 60 turnovers. The Georgia native and former Clemson star has completed nearly 64% of his passes for 11,770 yards, with 58 touchdowns and 39 interceptions. Additionally, he has 11 rushing touchdowns and 21 fumbles lost.

The Jaguars highlight a 19-game stretch across the 2022-23 seasons where Lawrence excelled, throwing for 4,713 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, with Jacksonville achieving a 14-5 record during that period. General manager Trent Baalke and coach Doug Pederson view this as a sign of Lawrence’s potential when healthy.

However, Lawrence is coming off a season plagued by injuries, which Baalke described as “alarming.” He missed the first game of his career due to a sprained right shoulder in Week 16 against Tampa Bay and also dealt with a sprained left knee in Week 6, a sprained right ankle in Week 13, and a concussion in Week 15.

These injuries contributed to the worst late-season collapse in franchise history, as the Jaguars (9-8) lost five of their last six games, missing the playoffs after leading the AFC South for three months. Lawrence’s performance suffered, throwing for 4,016 yards, with 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He also ran for four scores, lost seven fumbles, and was sacked a career-high 35 times.

To support Lawrence, Baalke has focused on strengthening the team’s offensive line by re-signing left guard Ezra Cleveland and signing veteran center Mitch Morse in free agency. The Jaguars also drafted potential future starter Javon Foster in the fourth round out of Missouri.

Baalke revamped Lawrence’s receiving corps, replacing Calvin Ridley, Zay Jones, and Jamal Agnew with first-round pick Brian Thomas Jr., former Buffalo starter Gabe Davis, and Devin Duvernay.

These offseason moves aim to help Lawrence fulfill his potential and become the generational quarterback the Jaguars hoped for when they drafted him three years ago.
