SAD TO LEAVE: Alyssa Brito announces her last season with the Oklahoma might she be done with the team too?
The transfer portal is crucial in college sports, including softball. It has been instrumental in helping OU secure four consecutive national championships by bringing in players like Alyssa Brito and Hope Trautwein. Similarly, it has aided OSU in reaching the Women’s College World Series five times consecutively with additions such as Lexi Kilfoyl and Rachel Becker.
However, the transfer portal can also deplete a team’s talent, and both OU and OSU have experienced this. Last offseason, five players left these programs through the portal.
Here’s where those players ended up and their performance this season:
Bahl, a standout at OU with two NFCA All-American first-team honors and a career ERA of 0.99, contributed to two national championships with 397 strikeouts in 299 â…” innings. She transferred to Nebraska on June 15, 2023, seeking to be closer to her home in Papillion, Nebraska. Unfortunately, Bahl suffered a season-ending knee injury in the third inning of Nebraska’s season opener against Washington on February 8. She aims to return as a redshirt junior next season.
