Former Birmingham City, Wolves, Aberdeen, Nottingham Forest, and Sheffield United star now a free agent at 39

Former Birmingham City and Wolves utility player Greg Halford is seeking a new club after announcing his departure from Hashtag United.

Halford contributed to the club’s victory in the Isthmian League Division One North and helped them achieve a 13th place finish in their debut season in the Premier Division.

In a post on X on Wednesday, June 19, Halford stated: “The time has come to announce I’m leaving @hashtagutd. I made the decision before the season ended and that’s why I wasn’t at @TST7v7 this year.

“I’d like to thank everyone associated with the club, particularly Spencer Owen. I wish the club all the best for the future.”

Over his career, Halford has played for 20 teams and covered nearly every position on the field, though primarily as a defender. His longest stint was with Colchester United, where he played for five years as a senior player. He has also represented Nottingham Forest, Portsmouth, Sheffield United, Cardiff City, and Sunderland.

Halford spent two seasons at Wolves, joining in 2009 for an undisclosed fee and making 20 appearances before being loaned to Portsmouth, where he later secured a permanent deal.

Following his time at Wolves and Portsmouth, he moved to Nottingham Forest and Rotherham United before a brief loan spell at Birmingham City, where he played three games before signing with Cardiff City. Since 2018, he has played for Aberdeen, Southend United, Waterford, and Billericay Town before joining Hashtag United.
