Let his stay: Derby County urged to finalize “incredible signing” as notable connection emerges

Derby County aims to make a significant impact in the transfer window following their promotion to the Championship. They are reportedly eyeing a move that would demonstrate their ambitions.

According to the Dutch outlet AZAlerts, the Rams are interested in acquiring Australian international Mathew Ryan. The former Brighton and Arsenal goalkeeper is set to become a free agent this summer.

Ryan has spent the past season and a half with AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie, but reports suggest he won’t be re-signing with the Dutch club and will be available on a free transfer soon.

Securing the 93-cap Australian international would be an impressive move for a newly-promoted Championship team, and fans are hopeful a deal can be finalized for the 32-year-old this summer.

Shaun Woodward, a Derby County fan pundit, believes Ryan would be an excellent addition to the club if they can manage his salary.

Speaking to Football League World, Shaun said: “Matt Ryan would be an unbelievable signing for us.

“He’s at a great age for a goalkeeper, has over 100 Premier League appearances, nearly 100 caps for Australia, and extensive experience across Europe.

“For our transition into the Championship, getting a seasoned goalkeeper like him would be fantastic and exactly what we need.”
