DEAL CANCELED: Saya Swain has terminate her deal with the Arizona Wildcats after the…..

The Arizona Wildcats faced numerous injuries among their pitchers this season, but they are expected to have a full roster next year. Alongside their six returning pitchers, they will welcome Saya Swain, a former Iowa State right-hander, as a graduate transfer.

Swain spent four years at ISU, though her 2024 season was cut short due to a back injury after just two weeks. She posted a career-best 2.07 ERA over 23.2 innings in seven appearances, including one start, with a 4-1 record and one save, the eighth of her career. Swain struck out 24 batters and issued nine walks.

Known for her strikeout ability, Swain ranked 34th in Division I in 2023 with 8.6 strikeouts per seven innings and held the same ranking in 2022 with identical strikeout numbers.

Swain started her college career as a starter, making 15 starts as a freshman with a 1-5 record and a 5.40 ERA over 35 innings. That was the only season she had more walks than strikeouts.

As a sophomore, she started 20 of her 31 appearances, recording a 4.32 ERA over 97.1 innings with 120 strikeouts and 72 walks, while allowing 13 home runs.

In her junior year, Swain transitioned to a reliever late in the season. She made 37 appearances, 12 as a starter, finishing with a 5-9 record and six saves, setting a single-season record for saves. She ended the year with 120 strikeouts, 70 walks, and a 3.87 ERA, with 12 of the 82 hits she surrendered being home runs.
