Newly promoted Ipswich Town are reportedly making progress in negotiations to secure the signing of West Ham United defender Ben Johnson.

The Hammers full-back is set to become a free agent at the end of the month, with no indications of a contract renewal from West Ham. Kieran McKenna’s Tractor Boys are optimistic about potentially making a savvy acquisition.

Initially reported by EXWHUEmployee, a club insider, and corroborated by Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth, Ipswich are close to finalizing a deal for Johnson. Since making his Premier League debut in 2019, Johnson has struggled to establish himself as a regular in West Ham’s starting lineup.

While a formal agreement is still pending, Johnson’s potential move to Portman Road Stadium would underscore Ipswich’s determination. As they aim to consolidate their newly gained promotion, McKenna faces the challenge of securing Ipswich’s Premier League status beyond the 2024-25 season.

The Tractor Boys are scheduled to kick off their league campaign at home against Arne Slot’s Liverpool on 17th August.
