A lawsuit against Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott alleging sexual assault has been dismissed.

In March, a woman filed a criminal complaint against Prescott, claiming the 30-year-old sexually assaulted her in a car in a Dallas strip club parking lot in February 2017. However, in May, the Dallas Police Department announced they would not pursue criminal charges against Prescott due to insufficient evidence.

The accuser’s attorneys withdrew the suit in Dallas County and refiled a similar one in Collin County, Texas. In response, Prescott has filed an extortion lawsuit in Collin County, alleging that the accuser and her attorneys demanded $100 million (£79 million) in January before submitting the original criminal complaint.

Collin County Judge Angela Tucker has scheduled a hearing on September 13 to decide if the accuser should face sanctions for the harm caused to Prescott by the allegations.

“Despite the accuser and her legal team’s relentless efforts to extort money and damage Dak’s reputation, justice has consistently prevailed and will continue to do so,” said Prescott’s attorney Levi G. McCathern. “These ploys distract from the trauma of legitimate sexual assault survivors and undermine the progress that our society has made in supporting them.”

Prescott joined the Cowboys in 2016 and was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in his debut season.
