Newly promoted Championship side Derby County is poised to benefit significantly from the Omari Kellyman deal. Chelsea is nearing a sensational agreement to sign Aston Villa teenager Omari Kellyman, which is excellent news for Derby County. Villa and Chelsea have agreed on a £19 million deal for the 18-year-old, who will not be loaned out but will instead have the opportunity to compete for a spot in manager Enzo Maresca’s team.
The move and fee are remarkable considering that Unai Emery’s side acquired Kellyman from Derby for just £600,000 a couple of seasons ago. However, Derby County wisely included a sell-on clause that entitles them to 15% of the fee if Kellyman were to be sold. According to Daily Mail reporter Tom Collomosse, this means the Rams will receive a substantial boost of £2,850,000 once the deal is finalized. Kellyman developed through the ranks at Pride Park before moving to Villa in 2022, and this strategic move will aid Derby as they prepare for their return to the Championship in just over a month.
In a separate transaction, Chelsea agreed to sell Ian Maatsen to Villa for £37 million after his impressive loan spell at Dortmund. However, the deal to bring Kellyman to Stamford Bridge is independent of the Maatsen transfer. Chelsea is set to secure Kellyman on a six-year contract once he passes his medical later this week.
