Thornton Joins Lady Vols After Successful Year at Furman

Maeve Thornton has signed with the Lady Vols following a year at Furman, where she achieved a 9-11 record in singles matches and played as the No. 2 player in the Paladins’ lineup in 2024. In doubles, she secured 11 victories with various partners, notably undefeated with Grace Thomas with a perfect 9-0 record, primarily competing at the No. 3 position for Furman.

Before college, Thornton was recognized as a blue chip recruit by tennisrecruiting.net, reaching as high as No. 22 nationally and holding the top rank in Tennessee. She led Knoxville Catholic to two state championships and claimed two individual singles state titles. Named Tennessee Player of the Year in 2019, Thornton also excelled in Southern championships across age groups, winning singles titles in the 12s, 14s, 16s, and 18s categories, along with the 18s doubles championship. At just 14, she secured a gold ball at indoor nationals for doubles.
