Hirving Lozano is set to join the Major League Soccer expansion team San Diego FC in 2025.

The Mexican winger has been announced as the club’s first ‘Designated Player’ signing and will leave PSV Eindhoven for the US in January next year.

Lozano, 28, will sign a four-year contract and earn between $7-9 million annually, according to ESPN.

San Diego FC, joining MLS in the 2025 season, aimed to secure a high-profile player to kickstart their project.

After signing, Lozano expressed, “It’s exciting to be part of history as we build a club that will compete for championships in MLS. In every country I have played, I always strive to leave a mark, and making an impact for San Diego and in MLS is very important to me.”

“I immediately connected with the project and am confident we can support many young players from both sides of the border.

“I am extremely excited and look forward to finishing the year strong with PSV Eindhoven before joining San Diego FC at the beginning of 2025.”

Lozano will have the option to extend his stay in San Diego for an additional two years after the 2028 season.

He is set to be introduced to fans and the media next week.

The club is acquiring a top talent with 70 caps for Mexico and a rich history in top-level football, having played for teams like PSV and Napoli.
