Wrexham have confirmed their second summer signing as they prepare for their League One campaign. The Welsh team secured back-to-back promotions under Phil Parkinson and will be competing in the third tier of English football for the first time in 19 years.
After releasing several players, Wrexham signed goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo on a permanent deal following his impressive loan spell from Arsenal last season. They have now added young defender Lewis Brunt from Leicester City to their squad.
The 23-year-old Brunt, who has made four appearances for Leicester, spent last season on loan at Mansfield Town. Mansfield, who also earned promotion to League One, were keen to sign Brunt permanently but had their bid rejected by Leicester. Brunt, a product of Aston Villa’s youth system, has signed a contract with Wrexham until 2027.
“I’m thrilled to have signed the deal and can’t wait to get started,” Brunt told the club’s official website. “Wrexham has a great history and big ambitions, and I’m excited to be part of this journey.”
Under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham are making swift moves in the transfer market. Manager Phil Parkinson is pleased with the addition of Brunt.
“Lewis is a very good young player and a great signing for us,” Parkinson said. “He had an excellent first full season at Mansfield and has a lot of potential for further development.”
