ENGLEWOOD, Colo — Former Stanford head coach David Shaw, highly respected during his tenure from 2011-22, has been hired by Denver Broncos general manager George Paton as a senior personnel executive, a source told 9NEWS.

This is Paton’s second significant addition to his personnel staff this offseason, with Shaw joining after the hiring of VP of Player Personnel Cody Rager in January. Shaw, who brings a seasoned perspective to evaluating both college and pro talent, interviewed for the Broncos’ head coaching position in 2023 and has maintained contact with Paton over the past year.

Shaw, who spent nearly a decade as an NFL assistant, has been highly sought after since stepping down as Stanford’s winningest coach following the 2022 season. The four-time Pac-12 Conference Coach of the Year and 2017 Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year interviewed for head coaching roles with the Titans and Chargers this offseason and has expressed a desire to return to the NFL.

Shaw now transitions to the personnel side of football operations after more than 25 years as a college and pro coach. His experience is expected to benefit the Broncos’ young roster and assist the team in breaking their eight-year playoff drought, the second-longest in the NFL.
