Allen Park — The Detroit Lions are bolstering their linebacking and special teams depth ahead of next month’s training camp, signing veteran Ben Niemann.

The move was confirmed to The Detroit News by a team source.

The six-year veteran spent the first four years of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs after going undrafted out of Iowa. He signed with Arizona as a free agent in 2022 and appeared in 17 games for the Cardinals, including nine starts, setting a career-high with 70 tackles.

Niemann split last season between Denver’s practice squad and active roster, appearing in seven games. For his career, the 6-foot-2, 235-pounder has played in 86 contests, making 21 starts. He’s also been a key contributor on special teams at each stop, averaging 230 snaps per season with those groups.
