West Bromwich Albion has signed goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith to a two-year contract after his departure from Derby County.

The 28-year-old Wildsmith played 43 games for the Rams last season, playing a crucial role in their direct promotion from League One.

He becomes Albion’s third signing this summer, following midfielder Ousmane Diakite and defender Torbjorn Heggem.

Alex Palmer remains Albion’s first-choice goalkeeper, having been ever-present during the 2023-24 season.

Josh Griffiths, last season’s reserve goalkeeper who recently signed a new three-year contract, has been loaned to Bristol Rovers in League One today.

“We felt it was crucial for Josh Griffiths to go out on loan this season, and with Joe, we are getting a really good goalkeeper,” commented Albion manager Carlos Corberan.

“The fact that we have both the Championship and League One Golden Glove winners in our squad shows that we have excellent quality in this position.”

Wildsmith commented on his move: “I have previous experience in the Championship with Sheffield Wednesday, so I know this league well, which is great for me. I’m really pleased to be back in the Championship, especially after last season’s efforts with Derby, where we achieved promotion.”
