Pitt Sharp-Shooter Blake Hinson Cancel his Deal with Los Angeles Lakers

Pitt’s standout shooter Blake Hinson is set to sign a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to league sources. Hinson aims to join his former Pitt teammate Carlton Carrington, who was selected No. 14 overall by the Washington Wizards, on an NBA roster for the 2024-25 season.

Two-way contracts allow players to split their time between the NBA and the G League while being under the control of an NBA franchise for the season. These contracts are limited to two per team and are reserved for players with less than four years of NBA experience. Players on a two-way contract do not count against an NBA team’s 15-man roster.

Hinson, a First Team All-ACC and NABC All-District 2 Second Team selection in 2024, averaged 18.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, scoring 20 or more points 15 times. He set a school record with 110 three-point field goals, leading Pitt to a 22-11 record, a fourth-place finish in the ACC, and an ACC Tournament Semifinal appearance. Hinson shot a career-best 42.1 percent from three-point range, finishing tied for 11th in ACC history for three-point field goals.

Hinson recorded three of the top seven games in program history for most three-pointers, including a school record of nine three-pointers in wins over West Virginia and Louisville during the 2023-24 season. His 41-point game against Louisville is tied for the third most points in a game by a Panther and is a Pitt Petersen Events Center record.

The Deltona, Fla., native made a significant impact in just two seasons at Pitt, becoming the fourth fastest player to score 1,000 career points (61 games), accumulating 1,159 points (16.8 ppg.), 363 rebounds (5.3 rpg.), and 207 three-point field goals in 69 total games. He finished his Pitt career ranked 30th in scoring, seventh in three-point field goals, and sixth in three-point percentage (.401). Hinson also set a school record for threes per game (3.0 3pg.) and, along with Michael Young (2016, 2017), is one of the few Panthers to earn All-ACC accolades in multiple seasons.

Hinson was awarded the 2024 Panther Award and is now honored on Pitt’s prestigious Varsity Walk.
