Ellestad earned the title of Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year in 2024, topping the charts for Louisiana in home runs and RBIs.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Brooke Ellestad, the 2024 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year, is set to join Alabama softball for her senior season after an impressive junior year at Louisiana and two seasons at the University of St. Thomas.
In 2024, Ellestad, who also earned an NFCA All-Region honor, hit .359 (65-for-181) and led the Ragin’ Cajuns with nine home runs, 54 RBIs, and 12 multi-RBI games, including a season-high six RBIs in the NCAA Regional round’s sixth game against Baylor. Before her stint in Lafayette, she played two seasons at the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), achieving two 50-hit seasons and receiving accolades as a two-time All-Summit League honoree, the 2022 Summit League Freshman of the Year, and a finalist for the 2022 NFCA Freshman of the Year.
Ellestad is the ninth new player to join #Team29 in the fall of 2024, along with transfers Salen Hawkins (IF – Mississippi State), Emily Winstead (RHP – UNC Wilmington), Catelyn Riley (RHP – Ole Miss), Alexis Pupillo (UTIL – Northern Iowa), and freshmen Braya Hodges (P – Dothan, Ala.), Mari Hubbard (IF – Huntsville, Ala.), Kennedy Marceaux (IF – Kaplan, La.), and Audrey Vandagriff (OF – Bogart, Ga.). Alabama aims to return 11 players from its 2024 Women’s College World Series team.
