Former champion Elena Rybakina progressed to the quarter-finals after Russian 17th seed Anna Kalinskaya retired from their match due to a suspected right forearm injury. Kalinskaya withdrew while trailing 6-3, 3-0 on Monday. Known for her powerful game, Rybakina initially faced an early break but quickly regained her composure, winning consecutive games to take control of the match. The 2022 Wimbledon champion, who is the fourth seed and the highest-ranked player left in the tournament, didn’t feel any added pressure despite the depleted draw.

“Every opponent is challenging, and I know I must always perform at my best. That’s what I aim for in every match,” said Rybakina. “I’m just really enjoying every time I step on the court, and I’m happy with my progress. Hopefully, I can go all the way.” The Moscow-born Kazakh equalized at 3-3 when Kalinskaya began struggling with her forearm. Despite receiving treatment, Kalinskaya’s condition worsened, causing concern for her boyfriend and world number one Jannik Sinner, who was watching from the stands. Rybakina took advantage of her opponent’s difficulties to win the first set.

“My serve helps me a lot, especially when the roof is closed; there’s no wind, no conditions, and it’s perfect for my game,” Rybakina said. “I’m really happy with how I played the last two matches. I really enjoyed my time here.” In the second set, Rybakina saved a breakpoint with a powerful ace and consolidated a break for a 2-0 lead. However, Kalinskaya’s issues continued, leading her to drop another game before retiring from the match, visibly disappointed.
