The deal has been terminated: Derby has just canceled a three-year agreement with Adams.

Derby's Ebou Adams punches the air in celebration

Derby County have brought back Ebou Adams from Cardiff City for an undisclosed fee after the midfielder played a crucial role in helping the Rams earn promotion from League One last season. The 28-year-old Gambia international has signed a three-year contract at Pride Park. He spent last season on loan at Paul Warne’s team, contributing to their promotion to the Championship as runners-up with 17 appearances. Adams played a significant part in Derby’s successful promotion campaign, contributing to 11 wins in the matches he played after January, with only three losses. This permanent transfer to Derby marks the end of Adams’ two-year spell at Cardiff, where he made just 13 appearances across all competitions.

All of those appearances occurred in the first half of the previous season. A tendon tear and knee injury delayed his competitive debut for Cardiff City for a full year following his transfer from Forest Green in the summer of 2022.

Due to these injuries, the former Dartford and Ebbsfleet midfielder has only made 11 appearances in the Championship, with most of his career spent in non-league and League Two football.

Earlier in his career, Adams was on Norwich City’s roster but did not feature in any senior matches for the Canaries, spending the majority of his time there on loan.

Adams has been a primary target for Paul Warne upon Derby’s return to the Championship after a two-year absence and has promptly joined the Rams during their pre-season training camp in Spain.
