West Bromwich Albion have secured their second signing of the summer by acquiring Norwegian defender Torbjorn Heggem from Swedish top-flight team Brommapojkarna on a three-year contract.
The Baggies have paid an undisclosed fee for the 25-year-old Norwegian, who joins following the earlier signing of Mali midfielder Ousmane Diakite.
“Torbjorn has the versatility to play in any position across the defensive line,” said Albion head coach Carlos Corberan. “He is capable of taking responsibility, playing out from the back, and managing the ball well with both feet.”
Heggem expressed his excitement, saying, “English football has always been the pinnacle in Norway. Playing in England is a dream for every boy growing up there. Everything happened pretty quickly, and I’m really happy about that. From the start, it just felt like the right thing to do.”
He added, “I feel like the head coach is very ambitious. He shared his training ideas and coaching approach with me, showing a strong desire to bring out the best in every player. That suits me well as an ambitious player, so it will be a good match.”
Albion, who were defeated by Southampton in the Championship play-off semi-finals in May, are under new ownership and aiming to return to the English top flight for the first time since their relegation in 2021.
