SAD TO LEAVE: Hertha Berlin striker announces his leaving due to his…..

Derry Scherhant is a striker being linked to Preston North End, as the club looks for alternatives to Tom Cannon.

Everton striker Tom Cannon remains PNE’s top target, with manager Ryan Lowe eager to bring him back on loan after a successful stint last season. However, with ten days remaining in the transfer window, North End are considering other options in case the Cannon deal falls through.

According to Football Insider, Preston, along with Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park Rangers, are interested in loaning Scherhant. It is also reported that Burnley inquired about his availability earlier this summer.

The 20-year-old appeared in 10 Bundesliga matches for Hertha Berlin last season but has mainly played for their second team, Hertha BSC II. This season, Scherhant has scored three goals, following eight goals last season and 16 in the prior campaign.

Hertha Berlin is currently at the bottom of the 2. Bundesliga, having lost all three games so far this season. Scherhant, under contract with the German club until 2027, joined from Berliner SC in 2020. He was also linked with Newcastle United in June.

Preston North End has already tapped into the European market this summer by signing Mads Frokjaer from Danish club Odense BK. Manager Ryan Lowe recently indicated that PNE is more likely to secure a player on loan rather than a permanent transfer.
