HE’ BACK AGAIN: Reason for Connor Goldson Rangers return explained…read more..

Connor Goldson has rejoined the Rangers squad for their pre-season friendly against Birmingham City. Photos shared on social media showed the centre-back with his teammates as they prepared to board a flight south on Tuesday.

Goldson, 31, returned to the squad ahead of the friendly, which is being held at St Andrew’s as a tribute to Trevor Francis. However, it’s now reported that Goldson might still leave Rangers this summer, as his future with the club remains uncertain amidst negotiations with Cypriot club Aris.

The defender had traveled to Cyprus over the weekend, making his swift return to the Rangers squad unexpected. According to The Scottish Sun, his return is due to discussions with Aris being temporarily paused to allow Goldson to participate in the friendly. While no agreement has been reached for Aris to sign Goldson, a deal could still be made as Aris looks to finalize the terms.

Additionally, other clubs are keeping an eye on the situation and may intervene if the move to Cyprus falls through. Earlier this month, Birmingham City was linked with a transfer for Goldson, and their boss Chris Davies, a former Celtic coach, will get a chance to see the defender in action this evening.

The transfer talks arise after Rangers manager Philippe Clement admitted he must sell players before he can make further additions to his squad this summer. “That’s the reality,” Clement said when asked if his transfer plans depended on players leaving this summer. “That’s the reality that the board told me a few months ago. I know this, the recruitment team knows this also. This is the reality of the club. I had other expectations when I came in in October, I have to say.”
