Walsall have confirmed the signing of Sam Hornby after a successful trial. The goalkeeper has inked a one-year deal with the Saddlers, marking a return to the club where he spent time in their Academy until he was 14.

“I am delighted to be here,” Hornby told the club’s website.

“There was a conversation between my agent, the Head Coach, and Dan Still. We coordinated a day for me to come in. I’ve been here for the past week, and after the staff evaluated me, they decided to offer me a contract.

“Football has a funny way of coming full circle, and returning here feels like closing that loop. I’m back in the area where I grew up, which is really exciting for me.

“I’ve watched reserve and first team games from these stands, always hoping to play here someday. Now that the opportunity is in front of me, I couldn’t wait to sign.

“The fans here are amazing, consistently showing up in large numbers and traveling to support the team.

“I’ve played against Walsall before, and their passionate fans made an impression. I’m looking forward to having their support this time.

“I will give my all on the pitch, playing for the badge and giving everything I’ve got on game days, whether it’s a Saturday or a Tuesday night.”

Hornby, 29, began his professional career at Burton Albion and has played for clubs including Port Vale, Bradford City, and most recently Colchester United.
