Broncos, guard Quinn Meinerz agree to four-year, $80 million extension

One of the NFL’s premier young offensive linemen, Quinn Meinerz, is set for a significant salary increase with the Denver Broncos.

According to NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Meinerz and the Broncos have agreed to a four-year, $80 million extension, which includes $45 million in guaranteed money. The 2021 third-round draft pick was entering the final year of his rookie contract with a base salary of $3.36 million. General Manager George Paton and his team chose to secure Meinerz, 25, for the long term before the start of training camp. This new deal positions him among the highest-paid guards in the league.

Based on new money, Meinerz’s $80 million contract ranks him fourth among guards (third among right guards), while his $20 million average annual salary is tied for third place (second among right guards). In 2023, Meinerz earned an impressive 83.7 overall grade from PFF, the highest of his three seasons and third among guards, trailing only Chris Lindstrom of the Atlanta Falcons (87.7) and Kevin Dotson of the Los Angeles Rams (84.4). His new contract reflects his performance and continues an extraordinary career trajectory for the Division III player who has become an NFL standout just three years after missing his senior season at Wisconsin-Whitewater due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Throughout his career, Meinerz has appeared in 45 games with 39 starts, showing consistent improvement each year. Last season, he started all 17 games at right guard, allowing just two sacks and excelling in run blocking with an 88.7 PFF grade.

As the Broncos head into training camp, they will have a quarterback competition involving rookie first-round pick Bo Nix, Zach Wilson, and Jarrett Stidham. While the starting QB for Week 1 of the 2024 season remains uncertain, the Broncos have wisely secured a key piece of their offensive line for the foreseeable future.
