Derby County has developed several excellent footballers through their academy in recent seasons. However, financial difficulties at the beginning of the decade forced many of their prospects to leave.

One of those who found success after departing Pride Park is Archie Brown, now 22. The young defender joined the Swiss team Lausanne-Sport in 2021 after failing to secure a new contract with Derby.

Unlike some of his peers, Brown did not make it to Derby’s first team, remaining with the U23 and U21 squads despite an impressive performance in the UEFA Youth League in 2019/20. During that competition, he scored three goals in six games as Derby reached the round of 16 before being eliminated by RB Salzburg.

In the previous season, Brown scored a hat-trick and provided an assist in the U18 Premier League Final against Arsenal, helping Derby claim the title of the best U18 team in the country, even though the senior team was competing in the Championship.

However, it is his achievements since leaving Derby that have truly highlighted his potential. Over the past three years, Brown has become one of Europe’s most promising young players, attracting interest from top clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United, according to HITC Sport.
