Phillies Focus On Future After Losing World Series - The New York Times

Carlos Estevez is joining the Philadelphia Phillies at an opportune moment. After spending the first eight years of his career with struggling franchises (the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels), Estevez is now joining a winning team. The Phillies currently boast the best record in baseball and are determined to win the World Series this year, having come close in the past two seasons.

Although Estevez had a dedicated role as the closer with the Angels, he understands that might not be the case with his new team. He’s ready to adapt and pitch in any situation that manager Rob Thomson asks him to.

In a pregame interview before Monday’s series opener against the New York Yankees, Estevez spoke about his new role with Philadelphia. “Honestly, in a group like this, however I can add a grain of sand to this beautiful beach these guys have built here, I’m down for whatever,” Estevez said.

Estevez’s comments show a positive attitude and a willingness to contribute to the team’s success, which is exactly what the Phillies are looking for in a newcomer. The team has been performing exceptionally well for four months, so they don’t need a savior or someone to disrupt their chemistry. They need a team player who’s ready to fit in and help them win.

Before being traded to Philadelphia, Estevez had a 1-3 record with a 2.38 ERA, a 0.74 WHIP, and 20 saves for the Angels this year. He was also an All-Star last year, demonstrating his impressive credentials.
