Brandon Thomas-Asante from West Brom is expected to join Coventry after a change of plans involving Hull, in what will be one of three departures from the Baggies.

Former Salford striker Brandon Thomas-Asante was initially set to join Hull City but will now head to Coventry City instead, following a late transfer change. The transfer fee is reported to be between £2 million and £3 million. This shift occurred despite plans as of Tuesday to move to Hull’s MKM Stadium, with Coventry outbidding Hull, having long admired the player. Last season, Thomas-Asante scored 12 goals for West Brom.

Coventry’s offer was seen as more favorable, prompting the change. Thomas-Asante, who was in the final year of his contract with West Brom, was initially offered a new contract at The Hawthorns last summer, which he declined. Had he accepted, West Brom could have asked for a higher fee this summer. The club, recovering from financial difficulties before Shilen Patel’s takeover earlier in 2024, had to consider offers for players who could leave on a free transfer next year.

Thomas-Asante’s move follows the departures of midfielder Okay Yokuslu and left-back Conor Townsend. Yokuslu is returning to Trabzonspor on a three-year deal for a reported fee of £1.5 million.
