Patrick Bamford will be sidelined for both legs of Leeds United’s Championship play-off semi-final against Norwich City. The striker, who has found his scoring form in 2024 and become a key part of Daniel Farke’s attack, has been out since Leeds’ thrilling 4-3 victory over Middlesbrough on April 22 due to a knee injury.
In a pre-match press conference before Sunday’s trip to Carrow Road, Farke stated, “Patrick will definitely miss both legs. He consulted a different knee specialist, and there is minor trauma in his patellar tendon. He needs a few weeks to recover.”
Farke emphasized the importance of other players stepping up, noting, “We need others to rise to the occasion, and I have full confidence in the entire squad. We’re not dwelling on our misfortune.”
Additionally, Farke revealed that Wales international Daniel James might return this weekend. James has missed the last two games due to an abdominal muscle tear sustained at the Riverside.
James has had a standout year, scoring 13 goals and providing eight assists during Leeds’ promotion campaign. His absence, along with Bamford’s, was felt during recent defeats to Queens Park Rangers and Southampton, which left Leeds in third place in the Championship.
“Daniel James is making good progress,” said Farke. “He’s getting closer to a return, and there’s a possibility he could be available depending on how the next 48 hours go.”
