Derby County captain Conor Hourihane will depart Pride Park after guiding the team to promotion back to the Championship. The 33-year-old Republic of Ireland international netted six goals in 47 appearances, helping Derby finish second in League One behind Portsmouth.

Hourihane is reportedly being targeted by one of his former clubs, Barnsley, for a player-coach role. He previously captained Barnsley to a promotion and an EFL Trophy win in 2016.

Other players set to leave Derby this summer include fellow midfielder Korey Smith, strikers Dwight Gayle and Martyn Waghorn, and goalkeepers Scott Loach and Joe Wildsmith.

Waghorn, who rejoined Derby as a free agent last summer, scored seven goals after his release from Coventry City. Gayle scored three goals in six appearances after being released by Stoke City in February.

Negotiations are ongoing with top scorer James Collins, who scored 14 league goals this season, and Louie Sibley regarding new contracts.

Meanwhile, forward Tom Barkhuizen and defender Craig Forsyth have extended their contracts by another 12 months, and the club has also activated a similar extension for midfielder Liam Thompson.
