Before the Eagles resume practice to prepare for their preseason opener, here are five of the most pleasant surprises training camp has revealed so far.

PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles are taking a break until Sunday, when they will begin a series of four consecutive practices to gear up for their preseason opener on Friday against the Baltimore Ravens. During this downtime, here are five pleasant surprises from training camp so far.

Jalen Hurts:Anyone who attended the Eagles’ open practice Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field witnessed what regular attendees have been seeing all camp – the quarterback is performing at a high level.

Despite concerns coming into camp due to a subpar spring and the challenge of learning Kellen Moore’s system, Hurts has been impressive. If he maintains this consistency into the season, he could be in the MVP conversation for the second time in three years.

“He’s been really sharp,” said head coach Nick Sirianni. “I’m very pleased with how he’s been running the offense, making accurate throws, and moving in the pocket. He’s had an outstanding camp so far, and we want him to keep improving each day.”

When asked to evaluate his performance, Hurts credited his teammates and emphasized hard work: “The goal is to put in the work and have confidence in it.”

Britain Covey: Last year, the punt returner expressed that he sees himself primarily as a receiver, and he’s proving it this camp. Covey has been more consistent than some other third receivers like Parris Campbell and John Ross, and only DeVonta Smith runs routes better, consistently creating separation.

Despite being only 5-8 and 173 pounds, Covey has shown that players of his size can succeed in the NFL. It will be interesting to see if he secures a role as a receiver as the summer progresses.

Versatility of Mitchell. The rookie, initially billed as an outside corner, has never played other positions before. However, he is adapting well to nickel and dime packages and is handling the challenges presented by defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
