Trout has endured several major injuries in recent years.

In a post on X today, Trout shared that an MRI the previous day “revealed a tear in my meniscus that will require surgery again — ending my hopes of returning this season.”

“Playing and competing is a huge part of my life,” Trout continued. “This is equally as heartbreaking and frustrating for me as it is for you, the fans. I understand that I may have disappointed many, but believe me, I will do everything I can to come back even stronger.”

Nearly 33, Trout experienced his first meniscus tear on April 29 and underwent surgery four days later. He aimed to return within four to six weeks, but it took over 11 weeks for him to begin a rehab assignment.

Upon his return, he played just two innings in center field and had one at-bat before discomfort in his left knee forced him to stop. Trout expressed optimism about a quick return when he spoke to reporters last Friday.

However, another scan on Wednesday revealed a new tear in a different part of his knee.

Trout is widely regarded as one of baseball’s best players when healthy. He has won three MVPs, eight Silver Slugger Awards, and has been selected for eight All-Star Games.

By the end of this season, Trout will have played in approximately 41% of the Angels’ games from 2021 to 2024.
