A three-year-old boy, who was left unable to move his right arm and leg after a stroke, joined his favorite football team on the pitch after relearning how to walk. Reuben suffered a stroke on May 1, which impacted the left side of his brain, affecting his right side’s movement and his speech just days after Derby County was promoted to the Championship.

On Saturday, Reuben walked out onto the pitch at Pride Park with the players before the game. At the end, his favorite player, Eiran Cashin, escorted him to the East stand, where the young boy received a standing ovation.

Reuben walked onto the pitch accompanied by his father Liam, his sister Ivy, and the mascot Rammy, just ahead. Liam described the experience as “fantastic.” Reuben, who was two years old when he had the stroke, began regaining movement in his right arm and leg a few weeks ago. He wore a brace on his leg to support his knee as he walked out.

During a friendly match with Real Valladolid, Reuben, his father, sister, and Rammy walked out with the match ball. Liam told BBC Radio Derby that Cashin spoke to Ivy and Reuben afterward, asking if they wanted to thank the fans. Cashin then took them to the packed East stand, where all the Derby fans stood and applauded.

Liam carried the match ball as Reuben walked out. He mentioned that it was difficult for him and his partner Holly to “hold it together” due to the overwhelming support. “It warms the heart – it is difficult to put into words,” he said. Holly turned to him in tears, and his father was also emotional. Reflecting on their journey, Liam added, “To think where we have come from to where we are now. We didn’t think this was possible.”
