Done Deal: Derby County Has Signed Chelsea Star For……………read more.
Derby County have faced significant challenges in recent years, including administration, relegation, and nearly collapsing. However, those difficult times are now behind them, and the Rams have returned to the Championship. Under Paul Warne’s leadership, they secured automatic promotion in the 2023/24 season and are now preparing for a new chapter.
The focus this summer has been largely on incoming transfers, but it’s the players who have left the club in recent years that have brought in some substantial fees. Academy graduates Jayden Bogle, Liam Delap, and Omari Kellyman have all made moves to new clubs, collectively earning Derby County £2.7 million in sell-on fees, according to The Telegraph.
Bogle moved from Sheffield United to Leeds United, Delap from Manchester City to Ipswich Town after several loan spells, and Kellyman made a high-profile transfer from Aston Villa to Chelsea for a reported £19 million. Interestingly, the report notes that the funds from Delap’s transfer could have been higher if Derby County and their former administrators, Quantuma, had not requested more money upfront.
While the club’s past challenges are not remembered fondly, these sell-on clauses have ultimately provided a welcome financial boost. This money has allowed Warne to strengthen his squad ahead of the new campaign, with hopes of securing additional signings before the transfer window closes.
There are still some key areas that need reinforcement, with a new goalkeeper being a priority. Additional defensive depth and a forward-thinking midfielder could also be beneficial to enhance the squad’s flexibility.
