Afghanistan’s opening batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been signed by the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the 2024 Caribbean Premier League. The team will once again be captained by wrist-spinner Imran Tahir, who led them to their first title in the previous season.

Gurbaz, who previously played for the Warriors in 2022, will be making his return after a two-year gap. During his 2022 stint, he scored 157 runs in six innings, including two half-centuries, with an average of 26.16 and a strike rate of 140.17.

At 22, Gurbaz also participated in the 2024 Indian Premier League, playing three matches for Kolkata Knight Riders as a replacement for opener Philip Salt. He scored 62 runs in two innings, including a 39-run knock off 32 balls in the final against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Currently, the wicketkeeper-batter is in outstanding form at the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he is the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 156 runs in two innings, averaging 78 with a strike rate of 154.45.

In addition to Gurbaz, the Guyana Amazon Warriors have retained Pakistan’s Saim Ayub and Azam Khan, South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius, and West Indies stars Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Romario Shepherd, and Keemo Paul.
