As the new EFL Championship season approaches, Derby County has announced their finalized squad numbers, as reported on the official Rams website.
David Ozoh, one of the club’s recent summer signings, will wear the number 4 jersey for the 2024-2025 season.
Seeking regular playing time, the versatile midfielder, who is eligible to represent Spain, Nigeria, or England, joined Derby County just fifteen days ago.
The number 4 shirt at Derby County was previously worn by former Super Eagles midfielder Blessing Kaku, who also played for Nigeria’s Dream Team II at the 2000 Olympic Games, appearing in matches against Australia, Italy, and Chile.
Since the turn of the millennium, several players including Conor Hourihane, Harrison Solomon, Graeme Shinnie, Craig Bryson, Paul Green, Jay McEveley, Adam Bolder, Alan Wright, Andrew Davies, Chris Makin, Jason Talbot, and Dave Walton have also donned the number 4 jersey for Derby County.
During the 2004-2005 season, Kaku featured in four Championship matches as a Derby County player.
Primarily a central midfielder, Ozoh wore the number 4 during pre-season and impressed by scoring his first goal for Derby County in an unofficial match, helping the team to a 2-1 victory over Spanish La Liga side Real Valladolid at Pride Park Stadium on August 3.
Ozoh, who holds the distinction of being the youngest player to represent Crystal Palace in the English Premier League, is poised to potentially make his Championship debut in the season opener against Blackburn Rovers.
