Motie, who was arguably the standout bowler for the West Indies at Lord’s, was included in the unchanged XI announced by the team a day before the second Test in Nottingham.

In the first Test, the left-arm spinner impressed with figures of 2-41 from 16 overs, taking the prized wickets of Joe Root and Ben Stokes with two superb deliveries.

With the pitch in Nottingham expected to favor spin, Motie was anticipated to play a crucial role in the West Indies bowling attack for the second Test.

However, just minutes before the toss on Thursday, it was revealed that Motie “woke up feeling unwell” and was replaced by Kevin Sinclair in the XI. West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite later confirmed that Motie had caught the flu, making him unfit to play.

Sinclair, a teammate of Motie’s from Guyana, is a batting all-rounder who bowls off-spin. This is only his second Test match, but he has a solid first-class record, having taken 80 wickets in 29 games at an average of 25.81. Additionally, he boasts a first-class batting average of 38.70.
